The Archaeological Heritage Day of the Valle di Susa returns on Sunday, September 27: an event, coordinated by the Valle Susa Tesori enhancement plan, to promote the richness and the widespread nature of the archaeological heritage of the area.

From 10 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:30 PM to 6 PM, the archaeological sites of 14 municipalities in the Valley will open their doors with the possibility of free guided tours.
The theme of the seventeenth edition, which will be expressed at the various sites based on the locations and historical periods referenced, is "Heritage in Danger."

  • In Salbertrand, the Ecomuseum Colombano Romean will open the doors of the Hydraulic Mill of Martinet, an ancient hydraulic factory that is an example of industrial archaeology, and the Hotel Dieu, a shelter for pilgrims of medieval origins that has undergone an interesting restoration intervention.

The day will be an opportunity to discuss Colombano Romean and the 500 years of the Pertus, an incredible hydraulic work excavated in about 7 years starting from 1526, and the significance of the Ecomuseum, which for thirty years (it was established by the Piedmont Region in 1996) has protected and enhanced the rich and delicate heritage of material and immaterial culture of the Salbertrand area and the Upper Valley of Susa.

  • In Villar Focchiardo, the Certosa di Montebenedetto will be open for visits in the Orsiera Rocciavrè Natural Park.

Starting at 10:00 AM, guided tours will explore the historical-archaeological information of the site, organized by ARA - Cultural Association for Art Restoration Archaeology. Duration is about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Reservation required at arterestauroarcheologia@gmail.com or call 340.6318300

The Archaeological Heritage Day of the Valle di Susa is organized by “Valle di Susa. Treasures of Art and Alpine Culture,” in collaboration with the Superintendency of Archeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Turin and local associations.
